About
My name is Alex Stansfield, and this is my blog.
Me
I’m Alex Stansfield (see, I told you), I’m a 30 year old web developer escaping real life with my wife by traveling the world and teaching English in China. I work as a freelance PHP developer in my spare time and have a number of hobby projects I work on when not doing that.
The Blog
It’s not exactly fulfilling it’s purpose just yet, but that is mainly down to my laziness. So far it’s lasted longer than any of my previous attempts.
It mainly serves as a test bed for my WordPress Plugin, WordPress Subdomains, that lets you do funky stuff with turning pages and categories into subdomains.
I’ve also managed to post a a number of stories from my travel and teaching experiences, although no where near as many as I’d like to. Again, laziness.
At some point I plan to add some php, html, and css tips and tricks that I’ve learnt to the Web Development section.
My Travels
My wife and I set out from the UK on Christmas Eve 2007. So far we’ve only been back for two weeks for her brother’s wedding. We started in Russia and have so far traveled to Mongolia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Teaching English
Whilst spending 3 months in China in early 2008 we met many westerners who told us how great it was to teach English in China. More importantly you need zero previous experience. What better way to get extra travel money and avoid going home. We’ve been at it since October 2008 and should get back to the traveling in June 2009.
Why CasualGenius?
It was a comment a friend made about me once, and I just thought it sounded like a cool domain name.
