Shanghai Nights
We hadn’t planned to spend much time in Shanghai, our first trip here two years ago was quite underwhelming and this time we just wanted to use it as a base to visit nearby cities.
Little did we know that a whole shit load of snow would somewhat alter our plans. After a 11 hour train journey to Shanghai, which was supposed to be 6 hours but snow caused us to stop a lot, we got to Shanghai to find thousands of people waiting to buy train tickets. At this point we realised the chances of getting to the other cities was slim.
However we really enjoyed our 5 days in Shanghai, my impression of the city changed a lot and now I quite like it. We twice went back to the Cotton Club, our favorite place from our last stay, a nice Jazz club with live music from the house band, TsingTao and free peanuts. We explored a bit more, ate lots of dumplings and other food.
We realised that our chances of getting to Hong Kong for Lunar New Year by train were almost zero thanks to the snow so we broke our “No Flight” rule for the 2nd time and booked a flight from Hangzhou to Hong Kong.
